Cognitive Science

Cognitive Science is a rapidly developing interdisciplinary field of study concerned with the investigation of the mind and mental phenomena. It integrates approaches from philosophy, psychology, linguistics, neuroscience, and computer science to achieve a more comprehensive understanding of cognition.

A key objective of the Interdepartmental Postgraduate Program in Cognitive Science (M.Sc.) is to unify computational approaches to cognition with empirical research and broader theoretical reflection on the nature of the mind. The program places particular emphasis on exploring the mechanisms that underlie mental processes, especially those related to perception and learning.

Collaboration among computer science, neuroscience, and the humanities and social sciences has proven particularly important for training new scientists who are familiar both with the methods for formulating and testing empirical theories and with the techniques of computational modeling.

In summary, the program aims to:

  • Promote more effective interaction between computer science and the social and human sciences.

  • Foster systematic, fundamental, and applied research, and advance knowledge in areas related to cognition.

  • Enhance the competitiveness of Greek scientific expertise within the European and global research landscape.

Director of the Postgraduate Program: Professor Irini Skaliora
